Why the 50-minute hour is holding you back.

The traditional model of 50 minute weekly therapy was built for insurance companies. Let’s be real. In a traditional session you spend about 15 minutes at the beginning of session checking in and the last 15 minutes preparing to close. Leaving you with only 20 minutes of real processing time. It’s inefficient, and quite frankly, you deserve better ROI on your time.

Why an Intensive?

Because therapy shouldn’t feel like a part-time job

Your schedule is already hectic and demanding and that’s why you’ve been putting off therapy. The thought of another weekly commitment feels overwhelming and fills you with dread.

Intensives can:

  • Create progress that might otherwise require months of weekly sessions

  • Fit into your busy schedule with minimal disruption

  • Provide immediate relief from intense or overwhelming symptoms

  • Create meaningful progress in hours instead of months—so you can spend less time feeling stuck

Get the dedicated time, space, and focused framework you need to break old patterns and move toward forward-flowing relief.

 EMDR INTENSIVE FAQs

  • An EMDR Intensive is a concentrated approach to therapy that allows you to complete months of traditional weekly sessions in just a few days. Instead of the standard 50-minute weekly appointment, we work in multi-hour blocks (typically 3 to 6 hours) over a single day or a series of consecutive days. This format helps you dive deeper and make progress sooner by without the interruptions of daily life.

  • In weekly therapy, we often spend the first 10 minutes catching up and the last 10 minutes "closing down" the session to ensure you’re grounded enough to drive home or go back to work. In an intensive, we eliminate those transitions. This allows for more time dedicated to actual reprocessing, which often leads to faster relief and more significant breakthroughs.

    • People who find it difficult to commit to a recurring weekly appointment.

    • Those who have reached a plateau in traditional talk therapy and need a jump-start.

    • People looking to process a specific recent event, such as an accident or natural disaster.

    • Clients who live in areas without EMDR specialists and prefer to travel for a few days of focused work.

    • People who feel stuck.

  • While every intensive is customized, before EMDR work, we’ll meet for a Pre-Intensive Interview to determine the goal(s) of the time we’ll have together. We’ll analyze what your life looks like now, including current stressors, your support system, and your strategies for coping with big emotions and uncomfortable physical sensations. We’ll also identify places where you want relief, growth, or to take a big step forward.

During the intensive we build in regular breaks for snacks, movement, and nervous system regulation. The goal is to work deeply while ensuring your brain and body feel supported and safe throughout the process.

  • While the upfront cost is higher than a single session, intensives are often more cost-effective in the long run. By condensing the work, you typically require fewer total hours of therapy to achieve the same results, saving you both time and money over the course of your healing journey

  • Insurance providers do not cover EMDR Intensives. Most insurance plans cover standard 53-minute sessions, sometimes allowing for sessions twice per week. If you need to use your insurance benefits, it’s best to discuss traditional session options with your therapist, as EMDR Intensives are self-pay only.

  • A one-day intensive can help you increase performance and confidence, or significantly decrease the devastating effects of a single-event trauma (e.g., negative thoughts, disturbing emotions or body sensations).

While significant healing can occur in a one-day intensive, Complex PTSD deserves more than a half-day of treatment. Many clients experiencing Complex PTSD may continue to work on their trauma histories through monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly half-day intensives.

  • We’ll start with a free 20-minute consultation so that we can meet and see how we connect, and discuss whether an intensive is a good fit for you. If so, we’ll get your sessions scheduled.

After booking, I will hold the dates for your intensive for one week. You will be charged a non-refundable deposit for half the amount of your intensive cost. By the end of one week, I need completion of your intake paperwork in the client portal to continue holding your scheduled intensive.

  • Because we are condensing months of work into a short window, the process is emotionally demanding. You may experience "emotional hangovers"—feeling tired, sensitive, or having vivid dreams—as your brain continues to process the material after we finish.

In clinical work, there are no guarantees because everyone’s nervous system responds differently. However, intensives are supported by research and designed to maximize the conditions for change. While I cannot promise a specific "cure," the focused format significantly increases the likelihood of reaching a breakthrough compared to the stop-and-start nature of weekly sessions.

What are the fees or intensive therapy?

Personalized EMDR intensives are half-day to multi-day programs that include a customized treatment plan specific to your goals. Fees are based on your unique needs and the program we design to fit them. All fees are communicated ahead of time with the No Surprises Act.

Intensive sessions are typically $360-$450 per hour.

Intensive packages (intake session + 3-hr intensive session) start at 1,080*

I offer free phone or Zoom consultations to discuss your needs and interest in a personalized intensive program

*For current clients who want to add a therapy intensive to their care, please note your rate may be different.

Weekly therapy typically includes:

  • 10-15 minutes of checking in from the last session

  • 20-30 minutes of EMDR processing

  • 10-15 minutes of closing the session

You might spend a month working one specific stressor, costing around $1400 for the 4 weekly therapy sessions.

But realistically, stuff comes up between sessions, so you don’t always want to work on EMDR processing in the next session, and the focus might shift significantly week-to-week.

So in reality, you might actually be in therapy for multiple months ($1400 x # of months) and still not fully resolve the stressor you’re dealing with right now.

How is intensive therapy more cost effective and time efficient than weekly therapy?

Intensive therapy, on the other hand, typically includes:

  • 10-15 minutes of checking in and establishing a focus for the session

  • 160-210 minutes of EMDR processing

  • 10-15 minutes closing the session

It’s common to fully resolve one or multiple stressors within half of a day, costing around $1080. Two to three hours of EMDR processing is equivalent to at least double that amount of traditional talk therapy—so you’re doing more work in less time. You’ll need less therapy overall.

The main point? You feel better sooner.

You spend less money on therapy. You spend less time on symptom-managing medications (that weren’t really working anyways). You don’t have to keep taking time off work or paying for childcare to attend your sessions.

1-3 days can change your life.

Additional EMDR Intensive FAQs

  • Intensives can be scheduled online or in-person. Please note that, due to licensure laws, I can only work with you if you are in the state of Washington at the time of your appointment. In-person intensives can take place at my office in Tacoma, WA. There are multiple options for accommodations and dining if you are coming from out of town; I’m happy to provide referrals and recommendations.

  • You only need to be physically in Washington at the time of our work together. If you’re out of state, you’re welcome to travel here for the intensive—many people find that the trip itself becomes part of the healing: a focused getaway to rest, reflect, and grow.

Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or schedule a call—we’ll guide you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.

  • This is a premium service. I charge higher fees because intensives require significantly more preparation, sustained emotional energy, and flexible scheduling to meet your needs. They demand concentrated attention, specialized planning, and follow‑through that go well beyond a standard weekly session.

Intensives deliver accelerated progress and deeper change in a condensed timeframe. That elevated value—faster momentum, intensive focus on core issues, and tailored interventions—justifies the higher investment. If you’re ready for a powerful, time‑efficient path forward, the intensive structure is designed to give you that high‑impact experience.
